The Nepal Chamber of Commerce has drawn the attention of the government to the problems seen in the implementation of maximum retail selling price (MRP) and labeling. The Chamber of Commerce team led by Vice President Deepak Shrestha suggested to the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supply, Damodar Bhandari, to implement MRP and labeling only by making both consumers and sellers aware.
It is the constitutional right of consumers to get quality goods and services. In order to prevent consumers from being deprived of this right and to increase awareness about the market and goods, publicity and awareness work should be carried forward, but the commercial supply and consumer protection department is not taking this step forward. The Chamber complains that despite the agreement to resolve the issues that are currently in dispute through mutual discussion by spreading propaganda to consumers and traders regarding labeling and MRP, contrary to the agreement, the department is unnecessarily threatening entrepreneurs.
