A grid connection agreement has been signed between the 30.24 MW Mid-Ghunsa Khola hydropower project to be built in Taplejung and the Nepal Electricity Authority.
The agreement letter was signed on Monday by Purnalal Shrestha, chairman of Atlas Energy, the promoter of the project, and Kamal Acharya, director of the authority. According to the
agreement, the electricity produced from the Central Ghunsa Khola hydropower project will be connected to the 220/132 KV Hongpang sub-station under construction by the authority, said Balram Khatiwada, director of the company and general secretary of Independent Power Producers Association, Nepal (IPPAN).
For that, the project will construct a 6.5 km 132 KV single circuit transmission line. In that 132/220 kVA transformer will be installed and electricity will be supplied to the authority's system at 220 kV. Project head Ujjwal Shrestha said that the construction of the
project will start in 2026 and be completed in 2029. The gross head of the project is 158 meters and the design discharge of the project is 22.6.
The project, which requires the construction of a 3-kilometer access road, will have a 1750-meter tunnel and 250-meter penstock pipe. The power house of the project will be semi-underground and the power house will have 2 turbines with a capacity of 15.12 MW. The project will produce 175 gigawatt hours of energy annually.
