Hotel Barahi Kathmandu, which has been operating in Thamel since July 2023 under Barahi Hospitality, has received an international level 'Eco Footprint' certificate. It was awarded by Travel Operators for Tiger (Taft Tiger) for achieving excellence in sustainable practice audits.
Barahi Hotel organized a press conference in the capital on Sunday and informed about the award given by Tuft Tiger. It is written in the statement that Tuft Tiger awarded Barahi with a certificate as an 'Outstanding Practice Accommodation Provider' for the period from September 2024 to August 2027. There were four criteria for this certificate. In the first criterion, Taft Tiger considered the activities carried out by the hotel in environmental awareness, construction and interior design, participation in local programs, compliance with environmental laws and training under the social, environmental and economic aspects.
Similarly, to reduce waste and pollution, the use of plastic-free bottles, the use of biodegradable materials, the waste classification system, compliance with environmental laws, the use of environmentally friendly materials, the promotion of green areas, the ease of people with disabilities, and the consumption of local agricultural products by the hotel were based. Tek Bahadur Mahat, Chief Executive Officer of Hotel Association of Nepal, expressed his happiness for the contribution of Hotel Barahi Kathmandu to sustainable development and said that the Government of Nepal should also take the initiative through the Department of Tourism to create standards for such certifications. Nepal Travel Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Natta) General Secretary Yuvika Bhandari said that the professional practice adopted by Barahi should be applied in the normal life of common people. Barahi Hospitality is currently operating Barahi Jungle Lodge in Kaski, Hotel Barahi Pokhara, Sarangkot Mountain Lodge, Abas Pokhara, Chitwan. Barahi Jungle Lodge in Chitwan has already been eco-certified, according to the statement.
