The second railway rack carrying DAP fertilizer imported by Agriculture Inputs Company Limited has also entered Nepal through the Birgunj border. The railway rack carrying 2,500 metric tons of DAP fertilizer arrived at the Sirsiya Dry Port on Saturday.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the first railway rack carrying 1,250 metric tons of DAP fertilizer had arrived in Birgunj. With the continuous arrival of the second consignment, it is expected that fertilizer supply will be smooth during the paddy cultivation season.
According to Durgaprasad Pandey, head of the Birgunj Provincial Office of Agriculture Inputs Company, the fertilizer that arrived on Saturday is part of consignment number 154, which has been allocated for the Bhairahawa Provincial Office. He said the fertilizer will be transported from Birgunj to Bhairahawa as well.
Indian company IPL has been contracted to supply a total of 30,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer under consignment number 154. The company is sending the fertilizer purchased from Russia to Nepal via Kolkata Port.
Under this consignment, 11,500 tons of fertilizer will be provided to Birgunj, 10,000 tons to Bhairahawa, and 8,500 tons to the Biratnagar Provincial Office. Pandey informed that the fertilizer allocated for Biratnagar is being transported directly by truck from Kolkata.
Meanwhile, 60,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer imported by the company will also start entering Nepal through the Birgunj border within two to three days. The urea fertilizer under consignment numbers 150 and 155 has been imported through Aditya Birla Company based in Singapore. The company stated that the first 30,000 tons of urea came from Qatar and the second 30,000 tons from Oman.
Currently, the urea fertilizer is being packed into bags at Kolkata Port. The fertilizer allocated for Bhairahawa and Biratnagar has already started entering Nepal through the respective border points, while the fertilizer allocated for Birgunj is being brought by rail.
Of the total 60,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer, the Birgunj Provincial Office will receive 23,000 tons, Bhairahawa 20,000 tons, and Biratnagar 17,000 tons. According to the company, preparations are underway to deliver the fertilizer to the provincial warehouses on time and distribute it to farmers.
