The Road Division Office, Hetauda, has used 7 dozers on Tuesday to remove houses and structures encroaching on the main road area of Birgunj.
Durga Prasad, the office's engineer and focal person for Birgunj, said that 1 out of 7 dozers is being used in the High Court area and the remaining 6 in the Murali area on Tuesday.
He said that about 70 private buildings and structures from Gandak to Murali area had been removed by 3:30 pm on Tuesday. He said that half a dozen government buildings in between were not in use at present. He said that they will be demolished after the Saltamami period to prevent the work of service recipients in government offices from being affected.
The dozer campaign was launched on Friday to remove structures encroaching on the main road area of Birgunj along the Tribhuvan Highway. After the structures up to the agricultural implement factory were removed, the campaign was stopped on Friday evening after locals in the Bahuari area obstructed it. But from 6:30 am on Monday, the office started using its dozer to remove the encroachments.
The affected locals have been demanding that the road expansion work be carried out only with proper coordination, management and alternative measures.
