The District Monitoring Sub-Committee has concluded that illegal mining in the Marha River in Gaushala is a serious error.
The crusher industries on the banks of the river have been trying to hide the sand by excavating up to 20 feet deep at night and covering it with sand, and dozens of holes deeper than 10 feet have been found, said District Coordination Officer Radheshyam Thakur, coordinator of the district monitoring sub-committee.
'It is a serious mistake that there is revenue leakage due to extreme exploitation of the river at night and the lack of monitoring at the local level even when the river is being excavated against the standards,' District Coordination Officer Thakur said, 'The crusher industry has excavated indiscriminately everywhere in the Maraha River. Technicians will measure and determine the area and quantity of the excavated material. It is sad that no body is aware of the devastation in the river.'
He said that the monitoring report prepared with the suggestions of the technicians will be made public and legal action will be taken against the guilty. Thakur said that Gaushala Municipality did not sign a contract for river excavation and illegal stock was kept on the riverbank contrary to the standards set for excavation.
Gaushala Municipality Deputy Chief Renu Mahato said that monitoring was carried out to further investigate after complaints were received about regular illegal excavation in the Marha River. After the news was published in Kantipur that crusher industries were illegally digging holes in the river at night, the heads of the security agencies led by the District Monitoring Sub-committee and the Chief District Officer monitored the river.
JCBs were digging holes in the middle of the river by hiding tippers in the holes and illegally extracting river-based materials. After digging from the river and storing the stock in the crusher on the bank, the illegal excavation is becoming legal.
Locals allege that crusher industries on the banks of the Marha River are illegally digging river-based materials at night by luring public representatives and security agency chiefs. Thakur said that action will be taken against the crusher industries for digging deep pits in the river and damaging the surrounding settlements.
Janajyoti Sand and Gravel Processing Industry, Jai Maa Durga Sand and Gravel Processing Industry, Jai Maa Jalpa Sand and Gravel Processing Industry, Shubha Laxmi Sand and Gravel Processing Industry, Siddhartha Crusher Industry, Everest Sand and Gravel Processing Industry and Jai Hanuman Sand and Gravel Processing Industry have been found to have been illegally excavating in the Marha River at night by evading revenue.
The technicians who came to monitor the process said that Janajyoti Sand and Gravel Processing Industry dug a 20-foot deep pit near the crusher and excavated river materials in more than 2,000 tippers.
