Ram Ashish Yadav, the newly appointed Speaker of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly, assumed office today.
Taking charge at the Provincial Assembly Office in Janakpurdham, he said that he would not be a representative of any party but would play an impartial role as a common guardian of the entire Provincial Assembly. Speaker Yadav also said that he would promote dialogue and cooperation among political parties. 'Differences are natural. However, cooperation is inevitable,' he said, 'I will move forward in coordination with all parties for the benefit of the province.'
He said that the issues of Madhesh, including inclusion, good governance, access to education and health, job creation and challenges in the border areas, would be raised with priority on the parliamentary agenda. Pointing out the need for the Provincial Assembly to maintain effective oversight over the executive, he expressed the view that the parliament should be empowered in matters of budget implementation, transparency of public expenditure and improvement in the quality of service delivery.
Speaker Yadav expressed his commitment to run the Provincial Assembly in an effective, responsible and dignified manner in accordance with democratic values. 'The chair of the Speaker is above political exhortations and prejudices, and it will be my responsibility to make the Assembly accountable to the people by ensuring full compliance with the constitution, laws and parliamentary regulations,' he said.
