One of the accused in the murder case in Rajgadh Rural Municipality of Saptari has appeared in court. Ram Narayan Mandal of the then Belhi Chapena VDC-3 (currently Rajgadh-4) was among the seven accused including the rural municipality chairman Om Prakash Mandal, who appeared in the Saptari District Court on Wednesday.

The court's information officer, Umesh Kumar Aryal, said that the time had run out while he was giving his statement in the single bench of Judge Mahendra Bahadur Thapa Chhetri, who appeared in the afternoon. 'After the statement, there will be a closed debate,' he said, 'We have sent the accused to police custody.'

On 3 Shrawan 2055, Jantridas Bairagi, a priest of the Ramjanaki Temple located in the then Belhi Chapena VDC-3, was murdered. Even though an arrest warrant was issued in the case on 15 Baisakh 078, one of the accused, Om Prakash, was elected as the president of the CPN-UML in the local level elections on 30 Baisakh 079. Almost 10 months after his election, the case was adjourned by the bench of District Court Judge Hemant Rawal on 14 Falgun 079.

Although the accused Ram Narayan in the case appeared in court, Chairman Om Prakash of Rajgarh-4, his father Gangaram Mandal, then Chairman of Belhi Chapena VDC, Ramdev Sada Musahar of the same place, Manik Sharma, Bachcha Yadav alias Baukai, and Volichan Sada Musahar are still absconding. According to the charge sheet, there was a dispute when Chairman Om Prakash's father Gangaram refused to give 11 bighas of paddy land of the temple to the temple.
