500,000 liters of water is being distributed to the general public in the drought-stricken Birgunj metropolitan area.

The office of Birgunj Metropolitan Municipality has informed that 400,000 liters of water is being distributed daily from its sources and 100,000 liters of water is being distributed by the Nepali Army from 8 barun devices provided by Madhesh Province government.

According to the Secretariat of Rajeshman Singh, the head of Birgunj Metropolitan Municipality, 3 to 4 lakh liters of water has been distributed daily to different wards of the metropolis by 8 devices including 2 barun devices, one trucker and other devices. Similarly, through the District Administration Office, the Nepali Army team has been distributing water to different wards of the metropolis since Friday.

According to Ganesh Aryal, chief district officer of Parsa, 8 barunyantras received from the state government have been deployed across the metropolis. A barunyantra has the capacity to carry 5000 liters of water . He said that at least 1 lakh liters of water will be distributed daily in this way. Barunyantra has been provided by Birganj Municipal Corporation office to collect water. Prazia Aryal says that all the wards are given equal priority while distributing water.

Birgunj metropolis and the surrounding areas have been in chaos for almost three weeks. Rain has stopped coming to Chapakal. As most of the residents of the city have connected the taps of the drinking water company so far, there is an extreme shortage of drinking water in many homes. The lack of water has affected the daily life of common people.
