Two people have died and more than a dozen have fallen ill in Palpa after consuming poisonous mushrooms in the past week.
Police have said that Binimaya Kamu Magar, 66, and Balkumari Khamcha, 37, of Tahun Ombhanjyang, Rambha Rural Municipality-5, died after cooking and eating mushrooms they had found in the forest. Both died during treatment at the Mission Hospital in Tansen.
The hospital said that Kamu Magar died on the 4th and Khamcha on the 5th. Yanumaya Jargha, 50, from the same village is being treated at the Mission Hospital. The hospital said that her condition is critical.
They fell ill after eating mushrooms brought from the forest on June 1 and were sent to the Mission Hospital in Tansen for treatment after treatment at the Primary Health Center in Tahun. Four members of the same family, residing in Bhaluvan, Tansen Municipality-11, and Tansen Municipality-4, have fallen ill. They are being treated at the Mission Hospital.
Similarly, two people living in Madanpokhara Kokal, Tansen Municipality-8 have returned home after treatment at Lumbini Medical College Prabhasha. They also fell ill after eating poisonous mushrooms.
