The ‘Maijogmai Raithane Gatha’ program, organized with the focus on the preservation and promotion of indigenous languages, literature, art and culture, has given a new message of cultural awareness in Maijogmai Rural Municipality of Ilam.
Local residents have expressed happiness saying that the program organized by Maijogmai Sewa Samaj has strengthened local identity, cultural diversity and the relationship between the creator and the society. On the occasion, the ‘Maijogmai Sanskriti Samman’ was also presented to the communities and artists who contributed to the preservation of indigenous culture.
The main attraction of the ceremony was the ‘Maijogmai Gaurav Samman’. Senior cultural expert Mohan Singh Thebe, Himalayan singer Phuti Sherpa, folk singer Indra Gurung, Professor Dr. Bhim Subedi, senior singer and musician Komal Niraula, young singer and musician Krishna Bhattarai, litterateur Diwakar Bhandari, doctor Dr. Taranath Pokharel, Administrator Bir Bahadur Rai and former DIG Pitambar Adhikari were awarded the honor. Similarly, the ‘Myjogmai Pratibha Samman’ was given to emerging talents who have shown remarkable potential in the field of art and culture. Famous choreographer and theatre artist Smriti Pradhan and flute player Dev Niraula were honored with this honor. The program prioritized not only culture but also education. Students who achieved excellent academic achievements within the municipality were honored with certificates of appreciation and incentive awards. Prehima Bhandari, a student of Amar Kalyan Secondary School, who achieved the best results in the Class 8 municipal level examination, and Achishma Limbu, a student of Sirise Secondary School, who scored the best marks in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE), were honored. On the same occasion, a panel discussion titled ‘Myjogmai Raithane Literature and Culture Debate’ was organized. Journalist Prem Adhikari facilitated the discussion, which was attended by senior cultural expert Yuddha Prasad Vaidya, writer Diwakar Bhandari, rural municipality chair Kush Bahadur Thebe and vice-chair Prabina Rai. The speakers shared their views on the concept of indigenous language and literature, its historical importance and the role that the local level should play in preserving culture.
