The second Bagmati Literature Festival has begun in Narayangadh from Saturday. The festival organized by the Bagmati Province Ministry of Culture and Tourism was inaugurated by Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya. The festival will end on Sunday. The festival is coordinated by Bharatpur Metropolitan City Pragya Pratishthan.
At the inaugural program, reviewer Prof. Dr. Lakshman Prasad Gautam delivered the keynote address on the topic 'Nepali Literature of Bagmati Province, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow'. 'The literature of Bagmati Province should be made multilingual, multicultural and inclusive and linked to local identity, history and geography,' Gautam emphasized.
He said that the literature of the province should take a new direction by incorporating local originality, experiences of diverse communities and social realities. Gautam said that the literature of the province is mainly limited to the Nepali language, but now it should move forward by incorporating multilingual and multicultural dimensions.
He suggested that local language, culture, history, life and experiences of marginalized communities should be given a place in literature. He urged for research, protection and promotion of the original customs and culture of the indigenous people of the 13 districts of the province. He said that there should be no delay in connecting children and the young generation to the reading culture.
To attract the new generation to literary creation, Gautam advised the local level and concerned bodies to organize programs to promote literature. Secretary of the Provincial Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Dipendra Subedi, said that the literature festival, which started last year, will be held in a different district every year. The festival will feature ghazals, poems and plays as well as discussions on various aspects and topics of literature.
