Everest climber Junita Subba has announced the establishment of a Rs 12.5 million ‘Junita Trust’.
She made the announcement virtually at the launch of her poetry collection ‘Priya Atman’ on Friday during the inaugural session of the fifth edition of the Ilam Literature Festival. She is currently in the US.
She mentioned that all the proceeds from the book sales will be deposited in the trust. Informing that the trust is providing education to 7 students with special abilities from Ilam in various private schools, Subba said that it aims to make a long-term contribution to the social sector.
In addition, the trust has started giving the ‘Hangyug Junita’ national award from this year in collaboration with the Hangyug Junita Foundation. This time, the award of Rs 50,000 was given to poet Sundar Kurup.
Ilam Municipality Mayor Kedar Thapa also laid the foundation stone of ‘Hangyug Junita Dhyanalaya and Library’.
