The Hangyugjunita Foundation, established in Ilam, has announced that this year's 'Hangyugjunita National Award' will be presented to ghazal writer, poet and storyteller Sundar Kurup (Sundar Kumar Lawati). The foundation issued a press release stating that the award will be distributed from this year. The foundation's chairman Hangyug Ajat informed that the first edition of the award will be distributed during the inaugural session of the 'Ilam Literature Festival' to be held in Ilam on April 18 and 19 this year. The award carries a citation along with a cash prize of Rs 50,000. As mentioned in the release, the foundation has decided to honor personalities who have made outstanding contributions in various fields including literature, art, music, journalism, health, education and sports with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 every year.
Accordingly, the foundation has stated that for this year's award, Sundar Kurup, a writer who has been contributing to the Nepali literature sector through ghazals, poems and stories, has been selected as per the recommendation of the Ilam Municipality Literature, Arts and Music Foundation.
Sundar Kurup, who lives in the Hattilekha area of Ilam, has succeeded in establishing a national identity through his writing.
According to Hangyug Ajat, chairman of the foundation, the award will be presented during the opening ceremony of the Ilam Literature Festival on April 18.
The foundation has stated that such an award was established with the aim of encouraging literature and the creative sector.
