Poet Sonam Paljor Tamang from Sikkim has won the trophy of 'Mero Kavita: The Rhythm of Poetry' Season-1.
Sonam won the trophy after beating more than 250 poets. Along with the trophy, she received three lakh rupees in cash and a certificate.
Poet Praveg Hangsrong from Tehrathum became the first runner-up in the competition and won one lakh rupees in cash. Poet Toli Prasad Rajbanshi from Kachankawal, Jhapa, became the second runner-up and poet Sesay Thamsuhang from Phidim, Panchthar, became the third runner-up. They received 75 thousand and 50 thousand rupees along with trophies and certificates respectively.
Poet Binesh Rai Minjai from Sunsari, Dharan, received the 'Judges' Choice Award' in the competition. Abilal Rai from Damak Beldangi won the ‘Best Performer Award’ while poet Anish Rai from Rong Ilam won the ‘Rising Poet’ award.
The grand finale of ‘Mero Kavita: The Rhythm of Poetry’, which has been running for three months under the joint initiative of My Platform, Rhythm and Reality and Beldangi Natya Parivar, has concluded. The judges of the competition were poets Heman Yatri, Suman Smarika, Uttam Tumsa Limbu and Anjat Dadhi.
The best 10 contestant poets performed in the finale held under the chief guestship of Nepal Pragya Pratishthan’s Chancellor Bhupal Rai. Presenting the awards to the best poets at the program held in Beldangi, Chancellor Rai said, ‘Poetry is an ancient genre but it always remains innovative. Poetry that can be read with difficulty in text has slowly started to be heard. Now, looking at poetry It is moving forward as a genre. But the first condition of poetry is text.'
