This year's 'Gauri Shrasta Samman Puraskar' has been awarded to essayist and critic Gurung Sushant.

Sushant was presented with a turban and a certificate of honor along with a cash prize of Rs 35,555 on the occasion of the ninth foundation day of the Gurung Literary Forum held at Nepal Pragya-Pratishthan Kamaladi on Saturday. The forum has stated that Sushant, who was born in Rasuwa and has been making Kathmandu his workplace, was awarded in appreciation of his contribution to the field of literature and writing.

Sushant was jointly presented the award and certificate by the forum's chairman Tej Bahadur Gurung, the founder of the award and the founding chairman of the forum, Gauri Gurung (Gauri Sara), the central chairman of the Tamu Hyul Chhonj Dhin Gurung National Council, and Dhanman Gurung.

According to the forum's general secretary Samrat Gurung, the forum has been honoring a writer who has contributed to the field of writing and literature every two years. Earlier, poet Chham Gurung, writer Tirtha Gurung and poet Chandra Gurung have been honored with the award.

Award founder Gauri Gurung had initially established an endowment fund of Rs 155,000 by combining the amount collected from the sale of her first work 'Samai Darbani' and the cash received from various awards. The forum has stated that the fund was later expanded to Rs 355,555 and the authors are being honored with awards from the interest of the fund. The forum's president and free-lance writer Tej Bahadur Gurung (Tej Bahadur Chahakli Tamu)'s free-lance collection 'Bintipata' was also launched at the

program. The work was recited by Mishra Maya Gurung. Literary writer Tirtha Gurung presented critical commentary. In the session titled 'Tamu Pahaan: Dialogue between Shastra, Sahitya and Sanchar' under the

program, Gurung Shastra expert Dr. Pol Bahadur Gurung, writer Gurung Sushant and senior journalist Gangadevi Gurung shared their views. Pawan Gurung, central president of Tamu Vidyarthi Chhonj Dhin, commented on the session.

In the program, Pushpa Bahadur Gurung, general secretary of Tamu Buddhist Service Committee, Dal Kumari Gurung, general secretary of Tamusyo Hryula Chhonj Dhin, advisor of the forum Ramkaji Kone Tamu, academician Rajan Mukarung, head of the Department of Literature and Mother Tongue of Nepal Academy, and others expressed their views on the status, potential and ways to promote Gurung literature.
