A gathering of heads and representatives of Praja Pratishthans formed in municipalities has begun in Bharatpur on Monday. The gathering will discuss the current status, problems and policies to be taken in the future of such foundations formed by municipalities for the upliftment of literature, art and culture, and the Bharatpur Declaration will be issued as a summary.
The gathering was organized by Pragya Pratishthan of Bharatpur Metropolitan City. Inaugurating the gathering, Acting Chief of the metropolis Chitrasen Adhikari said that the gathering would be helpful in improving the foundation by discussing learning and experience. He said that the metropolis would help in making a plan to improve academic work and that other municipalities in the country should also think about this.
He said that the metropolis was positive in providing up to 10 bighas of land to build an 'Art Village' with an art gallery in Bharatpur and appealed to everyone to think about this and come up with a plan. Speaking at the event, Nepal Academy of Fine Arts Vice Chancellor Lalkaji Lama said that since art and literature also help in job creation, municipalities should be positive in promoting it.
He complained that municipalities have been doing good work in the field of sports in recent times, understanding the needs of the youth, but have not paid attention to the cultural and intellectual class. "We need to run a campaign in an intelligent way to make municipalities understand that making institutions strong is not an expense but an investment in making society better," Lama said.
He suggested that the municipal academies should plan and work for the development of all sectors such as art, literature and language. The gathering, which will conclude with a 'poetic ritual' on Tuesday, will release the Bharatpur Declaration, said Indra Regmi, Vice Chancellor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City Academy, the organizer.
