The Late Amar Nembang Memorial Writers' Award, established in memory of writer, litterateur and then chairman of Falgunanda Rural Municipality Amar Nembang, has been presented to three writers, including Kantipur journalist Deepak Sapkota.

The awards were presented on Monday at a ceremony held in Phidim on the occasion of Nembang's seventh memorial day. The awardees include Sapkota, poet Devendra Sokten, and writer Malisa Yakthumba.

The chief guest and Congress central member Narendra Kumar Kerung, along with guests, presented the trio of writers with cash awards and letters of appreciation. The prize money is Rs 50,000 each.

Journalist Sapkota's book 'Location' and a collection of essays 'Nirbandha Montage' have been published. Another writer, Sokten, is writing poetry and is active in various genres of literature, while Yakthumba is active in writing Limbu literature.

Earlier The award has already been presented to Krishna Dharabasi, Swapnil Smriti, Shravan Mukarung, Prem Ojha, Sharda Subba, Bina Thing, Dr. Govinda Raj Bhattarai, Bir Nembang, Devi Chhetri Dulal, Munaraj Sherma, Bimala Tumkhewa and Giriraj Baskota.

On the occasion of the seventh memorial day of Nembang, three students studying in community schools of Falgunanda Rural Municipality have been given a scholarship of Rs 10,000 each. In the same program, relief of Rs 10,000 per family has also been distributed to six families affected by the floods and landslides in Asoj.

The award is presented every year on Magh 26, the anniversary of the late Amar Nembang, said Munindra Nembang, chairman of the organizer Amar Nembang Memorial Foundation.

Amar Nembang, the then chairman of Falgunanda Rural Municipality, who was an established writer and literary figure, died of a heart attack on 26th Magh 2075 while addressing a program organized in the rural municipality. The award distribution program organized by the Amar Nembang Memorial Foundation was coordinated by the Yakthung Writers Association.
