Bhim Virag Sangeet Sahitya Kala Pratishthan Nepal, Makawanpur, has awarded this year's 'Bijuli Maya Van: International Music Award, 2082' to lyricist Kiran Kharel. The award worth Rs 100,000 was presented to lyricist Kharel by the foundation's chairman Keshav Lal Shrestha during a ceremony on Thursday.

Lyricist Kharel, who has been active in the music industry since 2014 BS, has written more than 700 songs. The foundation has stated that this year's International Music Award was presented in appreciation of Kharel's contribution to modern songwriting and creating important and successful songs in the film industry.

The foundation has been honoring and rewarding creators and writers who have made significant contributions to the field of Nepali literature in the country and abroad.

So far, Amber Gurung, Premdhwaj Pradhan, Bhaktaraj Acharya, Fatteman Rajbhandari, Shanti Thatal, Deep Shrestha, Prakash Shrestha, Nhuche Bahadur Dangol, Meera Rana, Karma Yonjan, Chetan Karki, Dawa Gyalmo, Deepak Jangam, Kiran Pradhan, Rajendra Thapa and Neer Shah have been honored with this award.

Entrepreneur and businessman Kanhaiya Krishna Shrestha established the award in 2064 BS in memory of his mother Bijulimaya Van. The award amount, which started at Rs. 50,000, has been increased to Rs. 100,000 since 2067 BS. The Bhim Birag Music, Literature and Arts Foundation Nepal was established on Bhadra 7, 2059 BS, in honor of the multifaceted personality of artist Bhim Birag.
