Neelam Karki Niharika, winner of the Madan Award for the best female teacher, has established the 'Meena Didi Award'.

Writer and litterateur Karki has established an award in the name of her mother Meena Karki to be given every year. Karki said that the award amount to be given to a female teacher selected from across the country is Rs 51,000. Applications have been invited for the award selection to be held at Kisan Mavi Jhadeva Mathagadhi-4 on Falgun 5. Meena's daughters, Professor Dr. Aarti Karki and writer Neelam, have established this award. 'We have established this award in honor of our mother,' she said, 'This will not only honor the teacher but also remember her mother every year.' Meena, who taught at Kisan Mavi Jhadeva in Palpa, passed away on Magh 21, 2078. She taught in Arghakhanchi as well as in Gothadi and Jhadeva in Palpa for 27 years. She said that one person will be selected from honest female teachers and given the award every year. The teacher who receives the award does not have to recommend the teacher herself. Karki said that since teachers are self-respecting professionals, there is a provision for other people to recommend them.

A former student of Kisan Mavi in Jhadeva, Palpa, has published a memorial book 'Mina Didi' in the name of the late Meena. Meena's son Dr. Devendra Karki and husband Bhadra Bahadur Karki passed away in an accident in 2056 BS.

Niharika says that she published her first literary work, Maun Jeevan (2051), from the money from her mother's provident fund.

Niharika's published works include 'Maun Jeevan', 'Niyitiko Khel', 'Havan', 'Brain Fever', 'Neelam Karki Niharika Kavita', 'Kagazma Dastkhat', 'Belly', 'Arki Aimai', 'Chirharan', 'Yogamaya', 'Daupadi Akalika', and 'Trichalis Katha'. 'Yogamaya' won the Madan Puraskar.
