Literary writer Vijay Hitan has been elected as the chairman of the Nepali Parya Sahitya Pratisthan.
A meeting held virtually on Wednesday formed a new 17-member working committee led by UK resident Hitan. The foundation's committee includes academics, critics, teachers, poets, environmental activists and nature lovers living in Nepal, India, Hong Kong and the UK.
Radhika Kalpit and Deven Sapkota were elected as vice-chairmen of the working committee, Bhavesh Bhumri as general secretary, D.B. Gurung and Rajendra Bhatt as secretaries and Laxmi Rumba as treasurer.
Mahesh Paudyal, Ganga Pokharel, Ashok Thapa, Purushottam Upadhyay Dahal, Naz Singh, Indra Chaudhary, Janu Kambang Limbu, Krishna Bause, Sarita Ghimire and Yashoda Rai were elected as members.
Chairman Hitan informed that the meeting also selected patrons and advisors. The patrons include Prof. Govinda Raj Bhattarai, Gyan Bahadur Chhetri. Geeta Tripathi, Prof. Bishnu S. Rai, Bhupin and Devchandra Subba have been elected as advisors to the foundation.
The establishment of Nepali Parya Sahitya Pratishthan was announced at the 8th Environmental Literature Symposium held in BS 2080. Chairman Hitan said that this campaign, which has been running as a volunteer group for about a decade, has now succeeded in taking a formal institutional form.
The main objective of the foundation is to encourage environmental writing (eco-writing) and raise public awareness about environmental problems, their causes and solutions through literary means, he said. Chairman Hitan said, 'After two years of preparation, we have succeeded in forming a formal team. Everyone's cooperation is essential to implement the objectives of the foundation.'
Chairman Hitan said that the foundation plans to continue the Environmental Literature Symposium, publish stories, poems, novels, theories, and travelogues of alternative literature, pay special attention to new writers, and collaborate with other organizations in activities related to environmental protection.
