A collection of short stories written by Hong Kong-based storyteller Suresh Yakso has been released. Former Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Sciences Tilvikram Nembang (Bairagi Kainla), Inspector General of Nepal Police Chandrakuber Khapung, poet Shashi Lumumba, academician and poet Shravan Mukarung, storyteller Bina Thing, writer and critic Dr. Tulsi Gautam and the writer's mother Lakshmi Limbu jointly released the book during a program on Tuesday.
Former Vice Chancellor Nembang said that the book 'Peniba' is a powerful reflection of the life experiences of modern Nepali society and the Nepali diaspora. 'Suresh Yakso is not only a storyteller, he is also a poet and a literary activist. His stories are written in simple language, but deep emotions, feelings and psychology flow within them,' he said.
Former Vice Chancellor Nembang expressed the view that Yakso's writing style, which is connected to the mountainous geography and life of Dhankuta, will be established as a unique identity in Nepali literature. Inspector General of Nepal Police Khapung explained 'Peniba' as a mirror of the identity and diversity of Nepali society. 'Peniba makes us feel Nepali again. Peniba is not just a story written for entertainment, it is a subjective story of our society,' said Khapung.
Author and critic Dr. Gautam said that in this collection, the storyteller looks at life from the philosophy of Mundhum. 'We have not been able to bring out the worldly philosophy of the Yakthung Limbus. It is a philosophy of life,' he said, 'The storyteller has said here at one point, 'I wandered around for knowledge and read many books. I read books by many authors, but philosophy is in the village.'
Poet and storyteller Bina Thing said that how a writer views society and the background he grew up in are important, while Yakso also expressed her views through stories. 'Being a writer is about communicating your thoughts. Be it fiction or non-fiction, poetry, essays or any genre. As it happens, a writer communicates his thoughts. For that, he only decides the genre,' she said.
Academician and poet Shravan Mukarung said that storyteller Suresh Yakso is an emerging and multi-talented young storyteller in the Nepali literary field. He said that Suresh's stories raise issues of identity and existence, social justice and humanity.
Shashi Lumumba, President of the Civilization Research Center, said that the contribution of the new generation like storyteller Suresh Yakso to Nepali literature is very important. He expressed his belief that such creative efforts will lead Nepali story writing in a new direction.
Born in Kagte, Dhankuta, Yakso is currently living in Hong Kong. This is Yakso's first work. The collection includes 15 stories, of which he said that he worked hard for the title story 'Peniba'.
