The Mithila region has its own culture and identity for wedding rituals. A book, 'Mithila Me Vivah Sanskarak Vishisht Parampara', documenting this four-day wedding tradition, has been released amid a grand program organized in Birgunj.
The book was released in the presence of former Minister Laxman Lal Karna. Addressing the book release ceremony, former Minister Karna said that this book written on Mithila marriage traditions is like a book for the next generation.
He said that although there are many books on marriage customs in the Mithila region, there is a Mithila book that describes in detail the entire tradition of the wedding ceremony, which lasts for four days from the day the marriage talks between the boy and the girl begin, and each and every ritual performed at the boy's house after the farewell.
The author of this book, Mrs. Chanchala Raj, a famous social worker and female entrepreneur from Birgunj, highlighted this book and gave detailed information about the unique marriage traditions of the Mithila region, as well as the social and scientific importance of each tradition.
The author Chanchala Raj, who has prepared this book covering the original traditions and customs of every region of Mithila over the course of five years, has said that this book will be of great importance in the wedding ceremonies of the Mithila region in the future and that it will be a must-have for the wedding.
Stating that in the wedding ceremonies of the Mithila region, there are often debates between the priests who perform the marriage and the elders of the society about the small rituals and customs, and sometimes due to this, big disputes also arise during the wedding ceremony, the author Chanchala Raj has said that she expects that after the release of this book, such problems will not arise and that this book will become like a marriage statute because it has been recognized by the respected people and scholars in the Mithila region.
The introduction to this book has been written by Dr. Shefalika Verma, a famous Maithili writer and a writer who has been awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honor of the Government of India. Verma, who sent her best wishes through a video message at the launch ceremony, said that this book is a unique gift for the Mithila people living in any country of the world, not just in the Mithila region of Nepal and India, to gain knowledge about their marriage traditions and customs.
The book launch ceremony was attended by Madhes University Vice Chancellor Dr. Deepak Shakya, famous writer and former president of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ganesh Lath, and Chitragupta Committee Parsa President Mahesh Das.
Mediaperson Priyanka Pandey delivered the welcome address at the program, while the famous Hindi writer and poet Prof. Rajendra Rahi delivered the vote of thanks, according to the head of the organizing committee, Niharika Das.
