Senior musician and bass guitarist Suvarna Limbu was honored by Radio Kantipur in the new edition of the program 'Salam Jeeundo Itihasa' on Saturday. Limbu has been honored by the radio saying that 5 decades of his life have been dedicated to the upliftment and promotion of Nepali music.
Station Manager Pawan Acharya honored Limbu by wearing a certificate and a dosalla in a program held in the courtyard of Radio Kantipur. Acharya said that Salam Jeeunda history program is the beginning of the tradition of honoring the old creators while they are still alive.
In 1970, Limbu started his musical journey by playing the guitar in a song composed by Gopal Yonjan and voiced by Indira Maske for the first time in Radio Nepal. However, he was the only musician and instrumentalist who had a bass guitar at that time.
His first recorded song is 'Hawa Sang Bagu Behain' with vocals by Pawan Gole and lyrics by Shivshankar Thapa. With the same song that was recorded in the 40s, he became famous all of a sudden . Limbu, who has played the bass guitar in thousands of songs, has composed songs from Narayan Gopal and Gopal Yonjan to Omvikram Bishta and Sunil Upreti . As his old songs are not in the archive, Limbu is now working on re-recording them.
Born in Hong Kong, Suvarna British Lahore was attracted to music after her father bought her a guitar. While in Darjeeling for his studies, Limbu joined the Diamond and Brotherhood bands in Kolkata, and later started the Prism Band with Kishore Gurung and Dev Rana. Limbu, who recently returned from a concert in Britain, wants to do a concert in Nepal with his old Prism band once again. He said, 'Now the former friends have dispersed. The age has also fallen . We want to do a concert together once.'
He regrets not being able to play the guitar in the songs of Bachchu Kailash and Manik Ratna . He says, 'It would have been possible to have played at that time . Later he stopped singing . Mani Ratna announced that Radio Nepal will not enter. I regret not being able to play in their song.'
He considers himself a guitarist rather than a composer. 'I have hundreds of songs . But I think the listeners should recognize me as a bass guitarist rather than the songs I create.,' he said.
In the program 'Salam Jeeundo Itihisa Lai', along with the lemon breeze, Azad kere er, hushal bho, deep like the ocean and so much love of the loving one, the song was presented by Chhiring Bhutia, Samriddhi Pariyar, Dinesh Maharjan and Samishka Dahal .
