Poet Shravan Mukarung has said that there is a conspiracy against poets and poetry in the world. Speaking at the 'Identity of Poetry' session of the fourth edition of the Elam Literature Festival, he said that a poet is a threat from a ruler who tries to silence his voice.
Facilitator journalist Phanindra Sangam asked, 'Is poetry challenged by readers or critics?' In response, Mukarung said, 'The challenge is from the poet who does not write good poetry.'
Poet Abhay Shrestha opined that poetry that can speak about time consciousness, society, culture and locality becomes powerful. "Nowadays poetry has its own identity. The poet is searching for his roots and land,' he said, 'Self-esteem poems are coming. This is the happy side.' He said that poets should not be narrow-minded towards critics of poetry. 'We must be tolerant. Critics can show the way to the creator, he cannot be denied.'
Another speaker, poet Mishra Vaijayanti, said that one should enter the village to find the vitality of poetry. 'It is important to write about the society from locality to global awareness,' she said.
Discussing that poets have always been in oppositional roles for a long time, she said that the role of poets is seen in special circumstances against the evils of power.
Poet Mukarung said that in the current era, critics are no longer considered creative. Now readers and people appreciate poetry. The scholarly critic has also done his work, now the poetry that is accepted by the people more than what he says is correct is the best poetry.'
