UML leader and member of the House of Representatives Surya Thapa has said that by closing the office of the cooperative and putting the director in jail, the money of the savers will not be returned. On the last day of the 12th Nepal Literature Festival in Pokhara, he said that even the government cannot return the money of the savers from the state fund during the 'Sahkariko Sasti' session on Sunday.
He suggested that the same should be done in cooperatives, just like when a crisis occurs in a bank, a 'dedicated team' is sent to solve the problem. "Not only by closing the offices of cooperatives, but also by ensuring that those who have been sent to jail do not escape, they should be freed from jail and the savings of savers should be returned by asset management and debt recovery," said Thapa.
He, who is also the chairman of the parliamentary investigation special committee formed to investigate the co-operative fraud, said that he did not think that a country like Nepal would return the savings of any financial institution, bank or co-operative from the state fund. In a conversation with journalist Krishna Acharya, he said, "I have discussed with all the related bodies from the Prime Minister, I don't see that possible."
He said that the related organizations should return the savings. He said that the main problem in cooperatives is that the directors do not know the members and the members do not know the directors. He said that it is not certain that all savers' savings will be returned. "If you have assimilated the cooperative even as a financial business, it does not mean that all the businesses you start will be profitable, they will not give returns," he said. We should also pay attention to this area.
In that session, Kamala Giri, director of Nepal Savings and Loan Central Cooperative Union (Nefskun), said that there is a problem even if the rules and laws are not implemented. "There is a problem in cooperatives now because we were not able to implement the Act of 2074 and the regulation of 075," she said.
She said that those who are working according to the rules are facing problems due to cooperatives that have gone beyond the rules. "When there is a fire in the neighbor's house, my house also catches fire. Those who do it on purpose have affected others," she said. He said that cooperatives are problematic because of the greed to get rich overnight by deliberately cheating.
