In Nepali society, a common standard has become, "Leaders do not read while reading."

Do the leaders really do not read? What kind of books do you read when you read? There was a debate on this question in Pokhara on Saturday.

In the 12th edition of Nepal Literature Festival, ``Why should leaders read?'', Janata Samajwadi Party (Nyan Shakti) leader Hisila Yami, Rashtriya Swatantra Party MP Shishir Khanal, political scientist Hari Sharma and political scientist Shankar Tiwari raised questions. All the three leaders participating in the debate agreed that it should be read.

Political scientist Sharma presented the argument that Nepali politicians read less. I have no qualms about saying that politicians read less. Because they are not able to read the aspirations and wishes of the people", he said, "This is not related to any book. But, reading the book is important.

He said that not only the book, but the leader should understand the feelings of the people. Reading is not just about reading books. A leader who can understand people's feelings goes to whether they read or not," he adds, "The medium of knowledge used to be books. The current Gen-G comes as a tablet. It came from an iPhone. A book is a medium. Letters do not speak by themselves, letters must be called. The author should call. Readers get attached to it.

Yami also agrees that leaders should read. He said that there is no alternative to studying to do the politics of transformation. Politicians should read everything. If you want to do the politics of transformation, you must read, read, read. "It seems that famous leaders of the world read a lot," she said. His comment is that leaders looking for

populism have read less. She said that during the 'People's War', when she was detained for 6 months in Rolp, she read books in association with Baburam Bhattarai. Memorizing the book on 'Mao and Leninism' is fresh in his memory.

Bhattarai read Hillary Clinton's book about the work of the 'First Lady' when she was the Prime Minister.

MP Khanal said that he is now reading books on foreign policy and diplomacy along with aviation.  He said that books have a very important role in building awareness and thinking. Reading is very important for increasing consciousness. I experience that time and again," he says.
