Discussions were held between storytellers in the 'Sources of Narratives' session of the 12th Nepal Literature Festival in Pokhara.
"People who write stories should read non-fiction the most," said Chuden Kavimo, a storyteller. Research is done first, then imagination is done. That's how a novel will be made.
Together with Chuden, writers Vivek Ojha and Pragati Rai discussed how to write a story, what are the sources of a story. The session was facilitated by Deepak Parajuli.
author Ojha mentioned that the subject he writes depends on his feelings. 'Be it any character, any moment, or any situation. It clicks in the mind at first, he said.
author Rai said that when she writes a story, she selects characters according to the topic. She emphasized on choosing a character that can convey reality even though it is fictional. Since I have taken a subject, I choose a character according to that subject. I have been writing to my daughter about future rights. You can't use your own story for that. Because I don't have any daughters," she said.
Chuden said that when writing on a topic, he focuses on research first. "After saying that I will write about this topic, I focus on researching what I will do," he said.
