Glass glasses, jars, bottles, plates and decorative containers have started to be used in kitchens from cities to villages. Traders say that the demand for environmentally friendly glassware is increasing.

Shiny glassware and glassware that were once seen only in hotels and party palaces can now be seen in every Nepali's kitchen.  Glass vessels of various colors, sizes and prices that can be easily purchased from the market have attracted the attention of consumers. Be it in the Asan market of Kathmandu or in the pottery shop of a village settlement, you can see shiny glassware everywhere. The increasing use of clean, shiny, different designs and sizes of glassware seems to be changing the old look of our kitchen. 

Lately, glass glasses, jars, bottles, plates and decorative containers have started to be used in kitchens from cities to villages. Traders say that the demand for environmentally friendly glassware is increasing. From small and large kitchen jars, oil dispensers, spice containers, pickle bottles to tea cups and water bottles, the appeal of glass has increased in every material. The market of glassware in Nepal has been growing rapidly for the past few years.

Mukesh Bajacharya, a vendor in Kathmandu Baneshwar, says that customers look for glassware for decoration. According to him, they have chosen everything from glass, plates to dining sets. He says that especially customers are looking for such dishes in terms of both decoration and use of consumers. "Our customers look for glass sets, colorful jars, bottles and glass containers for decoration," he says, "now glass has reached everyone's kitchen, let's say it has become like a fashion." Its price is also varied. He says that consumers should be aware about the utensils used in the kitchen. Leads used daily should be food grade lead. Which is safe when keeping food or drinks. The use of glass is considered effective as a more durable and environmentally friendly alternative than plastic.

The trend of glass has started to increase in the market through steel and plastic. The price of glassware varies according to the type. Normal water glass Rs. 50 to 150 can be found while the decorative set is Rs. 800 to 3500. Not only in the city, now due to the trend of online shopping, glass products have started reaching the villages as well.

Female consumers have ordered through social media after seeing the attractive design. Urmila Aryal of Koteshwar buys glass sets online. She says that glass is her choice in the kitchen because it looks attractive and transparent. She also uses dishes for the wishes of her children. She says, "Earlier I used to use steel utensils. Now even children want it. Its attractiveness has increased because it looks good when placed in the kitchen.

From plastic to glass

Some time ago, the sale of plastic or steel goods was increasing in the market. According to traders, till last decade only plastic and steel utensils were popular but now glass has become fashionable. Especially among the middle class consumers, glass has become a choice both in terms of 'decoration' and 'desire'.

- Airtight glass jar for cinnamon or pickles - 200 to 500
- Dinner glassware set (6 sets) - 2000 to 6000

- Baking dish (oven safe) - 500 to 1500
