Liver is the largest and most important organ of our body. It is about one and a half kg. Liver has more than 500 functions in our body. The most important function of the liver is to assist in the process of metabolism, i.e. the body's conversion of food into energy and essential elements.

The body must have glucose, protein, carbohydrate metabolism . The liver stores and converts everything we eat into energy. Likewise, the liver works to remove toxins from the body. If the liver does not work properly, the body does not have metabolism .

According to experts, liver disease is increasing in Nepal now. 50 percent of the total population has some problem related to the liver.

Hepatologist Dr  According to Pukar Thapa, most of the liver diseases are due to alcohol consumption. Similarly, the problem of fat accumulation in the liver, called 'non-alcoholic fatty liver', has also increased. There are also viral hepatitises.

Some of our habits cause liver damage. What are such bad habits? Let's discuss:

regular alcohol consumption

Alcohol is a very bad toxin for the liver. Worse chemicals are produced when the liver is unable to metabolize alcohol. It damages the liver . Although its direct impact is not visible in the first few years, its impact is visible in the later stage . That can be terrible. That's why doctors advise not to drink too much alcohol in the first stage.

greasy and 'junk food'

Nonalcoholic fatty liver is caused by eating greasy and junk food . This problem is increasing. If we look at the western society, most of the liver diseases are found due to junk food, loud food, obesity . Due to the increasing trend of eating junk food in Nepal, many problems have appeared in the liver .

Not exercising enough

Daily exercise is good for liver health. Daily exercise reduces the problem of fat accumulation in the liver. Not only running exercises, but other types of exercises should be done. At least 45 minutes of exercise until you sweat.  To find out if the

exercise is correct or not, you should do a 'talk test'. The talk test means that if you cannot speak a complete sentence during the exercise, you should understand that the exercise is being done correctly.

Late sleep and stress

Stress and insomnia affect not only the liver but also the body. The liver grows by itself, but it needs time to grow again. That happens during rest . That is why the body needs at least eight hours of sleep. Sleeping late, taking stress can also indirectly affect the liver.

Not checking regularly

There are not many signs/symptoms of liver disease. In the first stage, it is very likely that there will be no symptoms at all. By the time symptoms appear, it is more likely to be too late. It is known that the liver is damaged only after reaching the upper stage . Therefore, it is necessary to check the liver regularly. If the screening test is done regularly, liver disease may be detected.

If a person consumes alcohol excessively, there is a history of liver cancer in the family, if there is diabetes or hypertension in the family or oneself, the liver should be checked from time to time . It is very important to check the liver once a year. Similarly, people who already have liver problems should be checked according to the doctor's advice.
