Diabetes and the effect on the eyes
Uncontrolled blood sugar, high blood pressure and cholesterol affect the retina. This is called 'diabetic retinopathy'. When the blood circulation is affected in the retina behind the eye, vision becomes weak . If not treated in time, the eye may become swollen or wrinkled, due to which glaucoma may also occur.
Stages of diabetic retinopathy
It is classified into five stages . Bleeding is less likely in the first two stages, known as the 'non-proliferative' stage. In it, the blood vessels are swollen, swollen and microbleeding is seen. In the third and fourth stages, the risk of vision loss increases . In the fifth and final stage, the curtain can tear and stretch, which is called 'advanced proliferative diabetic retinopathy'. In this case, eye sight can be completely lost.
treatment methods
After eye damage due to diabetes, it can have permanent effects . In the treatment, different methods are adopted according to the condition of the disease.
laser treatment: In the initial stage, bleeding and inflammation are controlled by a special type of laser technology.
Anti-VEFG injection : If vision is affected, a special type of injection is injected into the eye.
Vitreoretinal surgery: Surgery is performed in the case of blood clots in the eye or retinal detachment. If necessary, the water in the eye is removed and gas or oil is placed.
