Generally, how many times can a person donate blood in their lifetime? According to doctors, blood can be given once in three months. However, except for emergencies, few people donate blood twice a year.

But there was one such person in the world, who has donated blood 1 thousand 173 times in his lifetime .

Australia's James Harrison, known as the 'Man of the Golden Arm', not only donated blood the most times in his entire life, but also saved the lives of more than 2.4 million children.

Harrison, who has set a world record in 2005 by donating blood the most times, is no longer in this world . He passed away last February 17 at the age of 88. After his death, the Australian Red Cross Blood Service paid tribute, saying that Harrison was a god to millions of children.

The reason behind donating blood so many times was a rare disease antibody 'anti-D' in his body. With the help of this antibody, he has saved the lives of more than 2.4 million children in the womb.

What is the rare antibody 'Anti-D'?
Harrison had a special type of antibody in his blood . From which the life-saving anti-D is prepared. According to the Blood Service, anti-D is given to pregnant women whose blood is harming the unborn child. This disease causes anemia, liver swelling and brain damage or death of the baby in the womb.

This disease called hemolytic disease of newborn (HDN) is contracted by pregnant women when the blood of the woman is Rhesus-negative and the blood of the unborn child is Rhesus-positive.

Harrison decided to donate blood at the age of 14 after being informed about the problem with his blood. But he started donating blood from the age of 18.
