Floods and landslides following incessant rains for three days starting from October 17 caused huge loss of life and property in Ilam.

Roads, bridges, drinking water, electricity and other physical infrastructure were damaged, 39 people lost their lives . The victims here are not yet tired of the disaster .

The Ilameli Society Hong Kong has provided financial assistance to the families of those who lost their lives due to floods and landslides and the families of injured victims .

The organization has provided a total of Rs 1 million 49 thousand in financial assistance to the flood and landslide victims across the district . The said assistance was handed over to the victims at a program organized at the Ilam Araniko Museum . The victims received the assistance in the presence of Jayaprakash Rai, Chief of the District Coordination Committee Ilam, Chief District Officer Laxman Dhakal, Bhim Chapagain, President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Ilam branch, and others.

Dal Bahadur Gurung, former president of Ilameli Samaj Hong Kong, member of the organization Shishir Rai, and Prakash Thamsuhang, president of Ilam Sahitya Samaj, facilitated the distribution of relief funds.

Established in 2001, Ilameli Samaj Hong Kong has been continuously contributing to the fields of natural disasters, accidents, health care assistance, education and social upliftment, said President Basanta Bipin. 'The organization has been providing relief and financial assistance to the families affected by disasters including floods, landslides, fires, epidemics,' he said. 'We have been actively participating in various humanitarian works such as educational assistance to underprivileged students, financial assistance to patients who lack treatment, and social service.'
