Former Minister Vijay Kumar Gachhadar's attempt to nominate his sole name from Nepali Congress's Sunsari Constituency No. 3 for the Falgun 21 elections has failed.

Although most of the regional committees in Sunsari had sent names to the district, the meeting was adjourned after Gachhadar pressured them to recommend a single name in Region No. 3.

Gachhadar, who started his political journey by joining the Nepal Students' Union from Mahendra Morang Campus in 2027 BS and has been a minister 18 times, was defeated by CPN-UML candidate Bhagwati Chaudhary in the 2079 House of Representatives elections by a margin of more than 5,000 votes. Gachhadar, who is also a former Deputy Prime Minister, was involved in the embezzlement of government land at Lalita Niwas, but he was cleared by a special court . The meeting of the regional committee of Region No. 3, held at a party palace in Duhabi, was adjourned after Gachhadar pressured them to recommend a single name. The meeting, which was held after 11 am to recommend a name, lasted until 5 pm. According to Mehdi Hussain, the chairman of the Sunsari Regional Committee No. 3, along with Gachhadar, has been recommended directly to the House of Representatives. Similarly, while Mahesh Prasad Bastola's name was recommended as the first candidate in the proportional representation, 13 others, including Dilmaya Dangi, Pramila Gachhadar, and Goma Parajuli, have been recommended.
