The youths who protested by spraying red ink on UML leader Mahesh Basnet have been released. Basnet, who was on his way to participate in the Youth Awareness Campaign organized in Itahari via Biratnagar Airport on Sunday, was sprayed with red ink by Sanjog Gautam and Arpit Kunwar on Airport Road.
The District Police Office team took them into custody immediately after the incident. The police released them on Sunday evening. ‘We released them today,’ DSP Kopila Chudal said, ‘What should we do with the little ones?’
One of the two youths sitting at a tea shop some distance from the airport suddenly got up and splashed paint on Basnet’s vehicle. Another youth was filming the incident.
The youth who attacked Lola is the unit committee president of the Nepal Students’ Union of Morang Campus. He is a student leader close to Shekhar Koirala. Kunwar is also said to be affiliated with a student union close to the Congress. However, he has stated through TikTok that he is not affiliated with any party and has been participating in the Gen-G movement since Bhadra 23 and 24.
