Excellent stories of 'hypnosis' that will hypnotize the reader

What you should know

Radhika's fictional story collection 'Sammohan' includes 14 stories, the first of which is 'Chirag'. In the story, a woman goes to Upper Mustang for a visit with her husband. The character, who was used to horse riding in her youth, gets nostalgic when she sees a horse there. Once upon a time, she had a horse named 'Chirag', on which the character used to travel the world.

Radhika Katha writes, ‘When I reached adolescence, my father used to laugh at me and say, ‘My daughter is the goddess Aswarudha who rides a horse named Aparajita.’ I used to be moved by my father’s words and inquire about the goddess Aswarudha. My father used to say about Aswarudha, ‘She is the goddess in the form of power, my daughter. She used to ride a white horse named Aparajita with a golden staff in her hand. She had destroyed the demons in the Satya Yuga and protected the Suras.’ My conversation with my father would make my body grow thorns.’

Radhika’s writing style is considered one of the best among contemporary storytellers. Perhaps because she is a teacher by profession, the words are very sincere, sweet and of high quality. There is no flaw in Shuddhashuddhi. The writing is so perfect that it captivates every word.

Among the female-centric stories written recently, the stories in this collection capture the reader's attention. The stories written with women as heroes are presented with great pride. There is sadness, pain, but the female character is never portrayed as a 'poor person'. There are stories in which the character somehow ends his life happily despite being destined to suffer.

After writing the book, the author's writing range would have expanded even more if he had not written only stories about people but also given space to many creatures and environments in nature.

The title choice, use of language, and sentence structure in the story hypnotize the reader, and the story structure has also carried the story in a way that does not seem fictional. In the top story 'Sammohan', a character becomes the author and that character brings a teenage character into his story. The story of the character falling under the hypnosis of the same character and feeling uncomfortable with his wife was found to be very well composed. The source of possibility for the mature male writer to introduce a teenage character who is in oblivion in the story is the writer's childhood friend. In this way, by revealing the source of birth of the character, she has shown the skill that a writer should have.

Some lines from the attractive paragraphs of the story 'Hypnosis' - 'Life was going well until she came. But, when she came, the chain of life was broken. The rhythm was disturbed. She has become my habit. On the pretext of needing solitude to write, I leave my bed in the early hours of the morning and enter the study room and the loving and painful love journey with Madhavi begins.'

'..loving and painful love journey..' The sentence formation of 'painful journey' in Premil was very wonderful. This collection of stories is worth reading with sentences like these. In terms of the structure of the story, it is not new that in many stories the author falls deeply in love with his own character. However, in Radhika's writing, the fact that the author, who falls in love with the character, finds it difficult with his wife is even more new.

Among the topics chosen by the author, the story titled 'Unveiling' is also worth reading. The character of the story is an only son on his wedding night. However, no matter how he tries, his lust for his wife does not arise. The closer he gets, the more sweat he releases. Ultimately, the man cannot suppress his true feelings on the extravagant honeymoon that he is showing due to the pressure of society. In that situation, the story of the bride, that is, the woman, rescuing him is presented with great skill. This topic is a terrible problem that is deeply embedded in society. What is the compulsion to be an only child, born with a feminine nature, and to walk around with the pomp of being a son? Someone had to understand that feeling. The story has done justice to such a situation by entrusting this responsibility to her life partner.

Although women are given an independent and decisive role in the stories of this collection, their relationship with men is given less importance. This is reflected in her two stories, ‘Sparsh’ and ‘Will You Marry Me?’. In the story ‘Sparsh’, a self-reliant woman is perfect in every way, has a private bungalow on Durbar Marg, and a job in an INGO. There are various modern toys that fulfill sexual desires. However, without the contact of human emotions, she starts to feel anxious. Until then, she starts to get bored with the means of entertainment. Suddenly, her eyes are glued to the photo of a baby breastfeeding in a portrait hanging on the wall. Finally, she asks herself, ‘Is there a mother inside every woman?’ Where is that? The character then immediately reaches a center that helps in having children.

The meaning of this story is that a woman wants to become a mother and continue the generation, but a man is not a necessity for that. While this character leaves her partner who has been living together for a long time because of his marriage proposal. In another similar story, ‘Will You Marry Me?’, the female character leaves her family to pursue her writing journey independently. Later, when a marriage proposal comes, she rejects it outright. However, in the last moments of her life, the same man comes and fulfills her innermost desires. The dialogue between the two characters, who have reached stage four of ureteric cancer, and their last days with their lover is very sweet. At the end of the story, the two characters are shown getting married. Even a person who has accepted death after falling in love does not want to die. She desires to live longer. There is a very amazing style towards the end of this story. Let me show you a little here, ‘Shaku, a new book has come out in the market. Get up and take a look.’

‘I have not been able to open my eyes. I will keep it there. I will read it when I wake up.’

‘...let’s see, Shakuntala Madam, what good books are there.’

‘What a great cover design! Whose book are these, Vasti Sir?’

‘Is it possible that our Shakuntala Madam cannot recognize the letters? Whose is it to read,’ he said teasingly.

I tried to read the letters written in the book’s lyrics through my glasses with my eyes closed. I read them out loud like a child learning to read, ‘Sha-ku-nta-la sha-rma.’

The characters all have the same style of speaking (of the author). This should not be done. Each character’s style of speaking should be different.

When examining these stories, it is also seen that the author’s psychology is aversion to marriage, but does he respect love with a man? It also shows whether he is trying to convey that only marriage fulfills the meaning of love in a story. Therefore, when understood as a whole, it seems that the author only thinks of giving women a high position without holding firm to any of his ideas. When reading all fourteen stories, there is no confusion due to the writing style. It is clear how amazing it is when a teacher engages in literature.

However, since it is a first narrative work, there are definitely some errors. The style of bringing a scene forward in the story structure and taking it to memory to confirm it is very enjoyable. However, such a structure is enjoyable when reading a story. When it comes in the form of a collection, the reader gets bored when the same style is used in many stories. The transparency of the characters has not been paid attention to. However, when the author's character describes the character, transparency has been used in a fun way. For example, in the story 'Hypnosis', the author has described his character well. However, the real author has not given any identity to the author. He has only talked about his nature. Who is the author's wife? The reader cannot guess that either. The style of speech of each character is the same (of the author). This should not be done. Each character's speaking style should be different. It should be kept in mind that the character's thinking style and speaking style differ according to their environment and age. The word 'Dakas' is repeated a lot. After writing the book,

would have expanded the writer's writing scope by not only writing stories about people but also giving space to various creatures and environments of nature.
