Gold medals in wusu at the 12th and 13th consecutive South Asian Games (SAG), bronze at the Asian University Usu Championship-2024 and gold medals at the 7th to 9th National Games. This is a brief introduction to the success of Usu player Nima Ghartimar. She became known in Nepali sports after winning gold in the South Asian Games before she was 16 years old.
In 2016, the 12th Saag was held in Guwahati and Sillong, India. Usu's competition was in Shillong. No gold medal was coming from Nepalese athletes in any of the sports taking part in Saag. A week had passed since the competition started. However, on the first day of USU competition, Nima dominated the host Indian athletes and won the gold, bringing joy to the country.
Nima won a medal in the Nan Chhwan all-round category in Thaulu. In which she gave an artistic performance carrying a weapon (sword). Apart from Nima, only 1-1 golden football and judo matches were won in that green, on the last day.
The story of Nima's determination and struggle to win gold in her short signing with USU and her first international participation is hidden. Two years before that, she was selected for the Incheon Asian Games 2014. But she did not get to go to South Korea because her category was not included. She won a medal at the Lumbini Championships and was selected for Asiad.
Asiad selection is the most unforgettable moment in his life. She was not in the national team before the selection. She also fell when the athletes who won the medal in Lumbini were to be kept in the camp in Inchon. She focused on training with the determination that she will win gold next time. However, during the training, his left hand was 'fractured' after falling while jumping for the media shoot.
A month later Asiad was the final choice. Nima was in the 'mindset' that she should win the gold medal. She continued training without putting too much weight on her plastered arm. The plaster had to be opened to play the selection.
The doctor suggested that the plaster should be kept for some time as it is not strong enough. However, Nima had to play anyway. She tried to remove the plaster. She started insisting to her father that she will not remove the plaster. The father could not deny the daughter's stubbornness and was forced to remove the plaster. Finally she left after winning the selection. Whatever she said she would do and win, she did it and got success.
However, at that time, along with happiness, disappointment was also added to Nima. At the last moment, Nima was not taken to Inchon because she did not have the quota to play. Nima describes that moment as an extreme disappointment for her. She was in a position where she would not play.
Now she remembers, 'I used to cry all the time, I didn't even want to eat food. I did not want to study. I was young, I didn't even understand. Seeing my condition, mummy and daddy were also tensed. They started 'motivating' me by doing what makes me happy. You are young, what happened if we didn't get to play this year, we will get to go next time. Don't give up now, you keep encouraging me that another chance will come. I also got support from gurus. From there, I gradually took control of myself. I became more determined and continued training.'
Nima is confident that she was able to win gold on the 12th green with that strong confidence. She gave the SEE only after returning after winning the gold on the greens. She thinks that if it was not for family support and encouragement at that time, she would have disappeared from this field. Since then, Nima has played two Asiads (Jakarta and Hangzhou) and won another gold in the 13th Asiad. Now she is preparing for Asiad next year in Japan. 25-year-old Nima says, 'The dream of giving the best performance to win a medal in Asiad is still intact. Then you should think about the life of a player.'
Born in 2056 in Madhichaur, Rolpa, Nima's signature with sports is also amazing. When he was born, the country was in the grip of Maoist conflict. Rolpa was becoming a breeding ground for conflict. His father Mansur Ghartimagar was politically intelligent and a former government employee, so he was comfortable with the future of his children. After that, all the families left Rolpa and rushed to the capital Kathmandu.
Nima was only 3 years old at that time. His family came to the capital and settled in Tikathali (Changathali) of Lalitpur doing small business. The father wanted his children to be able to 'self-defend', so he took them to Judo. As a child, Nima also used to learn judo with her brother. However, near where she lived, she used to see children enjoying themselves in the training of another sport.
Nima was drawn towards it. That was the same game. which was taught in Ninja Usu Kwan. Where the then national player Neerajan Ale Magar used to teach usu to small children. Neerajan was the first guru of Nima's Usu. Nima used to play Fight (Sanda) genre. However, seeing that Nima was suitable for Thaulu Vidha (Kata), the Guru diverted it to that. Now she has mastered it.
Nepali players say that any game they play is just a hobby. But it is also a big struggle and challenge for Nepalese players to get used to buying the essential materials needed for those games. They have to arrange it all by themselves in the initial period. You have to buy everything from shoes to clothes. Expensive 'equipment' needed to play is a distant thing.
For that, the financial part appears as the main problem. Family support is essential. Nima has also struggled with that financial aspect. Many weapons (swords) are broken in training. It is not that the family has not been relieved from the hassle of having to buy a weapon worth 6-7 thousand for one weapon. This is the main weapon of the game. How many times did she play with the tape wrapped? Even though the financial situation is not strong, the moment when Baama spent the money and bought the goods is still fresh in Nima's mind.
Nepali players have the experience of having to struggle a lot to reach the top level. Since Nepali sports are not in the academic structure, she has understood the need to move forward with individual efforts. Most sportspersons are pursuing their passions and personal investments to achieve their goals. If the
is successful, they will come under the eyes of the state. Otherwise, they get lost. Nima has also accumulated many bittersweet experiences as she personally pursues studies and sports simultaneously. When I was in the national team, I used to go to training or go to school. It was difficult for him to make time every day. If you were late for school, you had to endure the scolding of your master, and you missed the training of your teacher. When is the time to eat a diet?
She narrates, "Sirs also used to say that there is no point in playing, focus on studies." But I continued to study and train even with a book bag on one shoulder and a training bag on the other. Despite being scolded by sir and gurus, I kept moving forward saying it was for myself. They read, eat, sit, sleep, wake up, train all according to schedule. Winning any medal by competing with those players who are equipped from training to technology is a great achievement and a matter of pride for Nepalese athletes.
One such proud athlete is Karate's Erika Gurung. Nima was an emerging player from Sag and Erica from Asiad. Erica won a historic silver medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. That is in the kumite (fight) genre. This success was only two years ago. It was also Erica's first major international sports participation. Two weeks before the Asiad, Erika won a gold medal at the World Sitorio Karate Championships in Indonesia. She had reached China from there carrying the same gold.
Erica's medal journey that started in Indonesia continues. In the last two years, she has won medals in all competitions except 1-2. She has won valuable medals for Nepali Karate. which karate had never won before. That's why Erika got the title of 'Himalayan Warrior' from her Maui organization Nepal Karate Federation.
Erica's permanent home is not as far away as Nima's, in Lahure village (Madhuvan), a northern region of Dhading near the valley. Madhuvan of the then Sankos gauis-8 now falls within Neelkanth Municipality-13 whose headquarters is Dhadingbensi. For decades, this village, which has been touched by road traffic, had to walk for hours from the headquarters. Even to go to school, one had to walk through the forest for hours. Due to the same situation two decades ago, Gurung couple (Vinod and Ratna) who entered the capital, got stuck in the capital for the education and future of their daughters. They live in Nepaltar in Balaju.
Erika's entry into karate was to fulfill her mother's wishes. Mother Ratna realized that she could defend herself after learning karate. Father was away from home for months during trekking. So the mother wanted her daughters to be fearless. Erika started playing karate when she was in the 7th grade. Neeraj Maharjan used to teach karate in the school where he studied. One day, two days later, Erika did not realize that her love and affection for karate was growing. Not only did she learn in school, she went to Manmanju Dojo and started learning. Neeraj used to teach there too.
Erika continues to embrace karate as a second family as she mingles with many of the players at the dojo. She started playing in competitions, and reached the national competition through the valley. His real karate journey began when he finished third in the eighth National Games. During this time, Guru Neeraj went abroad with his family. Erica then became confused. She began to think that her karate journey was over. Why did Erika's journey stop until she reached this success? Neeraj asked Santosh, a senior player of the dojo, to form a team and continue the training.
Erica was studying plus two after finishing school, she had also done training. After completing Plus Two, he found it very difficult to make a decision. Taking risks in sports or concentrating fully on studies? This question bothered Erica a lot. Because he knew that the number of successful athletes from Nepali sports is very less. She was torn. But when the family got the courage that we can continue studying and sports together, Erica's confidence grew, she continued to be determined in karate.
Erika's karate journey that started from a small dojo has now reached the world championship. She has won more than half a dozen international medals. Given proper training and opportunities, even Nepalese athletes can raise the country's pride on the international stage in a short period of time, and Erika has become an example. Nepali players mainly do not get international exposure. But after winning a medal at Asiad, Erica continued to get one opportunity after another. She says, 'Our training is all good, but international exposure is less, due to which our performance becomes weaker. The more exposure I got, the better my performance got.'
National team coach Kushal Shrestha feels that her journey has been energized by playing the role of a charioteer to move forward 'step by step' while facing the challenges of the team including herself at the international level. Aiming for gold in the 2026 Japan Asiad, Erika is determined to give her best performance in every competition, never giving up, which is why her game is attractive, says the coach.
Palesha Govardhan of Martial Arts is a more successful player than Nima and Erica. She is the only athlete from Nepal to win a medal in the Paralympics representing different abilities. Palesha won a bronze medal in Para Taekwondo at the Paris Paralympics 2024.
This was the first and historic medal won by Nepal in the Olympic structure. Before that, Palesha had won bronze in the 4th Para Asian Games (Hangzhou, China). That was also the first medal won by Nepal in the Para Asian Games.
Palesha, who was born without the lower part of her left wrist, started taekwondo while studying at DAV School in Javalakhel. Martial arts was played as an extracurricular activity in school. She was proficient in dancing, singing and art from the very beginning. She was attracted to it because she also plays in martial arts. Since the age of 10, Palesha has participated in more than a dozen international competitions in his Taekwondo journey. From where she did not return empty-handed. Four years before Paris, she came close to a medal at the Tokyo Paralympics. Under Taekwondo K-44 category, women compete in 57 kg weight group.
Palesha, who has become a 'role model' of Nepali sports, has a different journey. Palesha is a permanent resident of Kathmandu Baghbazar. The parents (Manita and Pradeep) never let their daughter, who was born differently, show that weakness. They have fought in the habit of distressing a different child born with a different child, many social contempt are fell and heard negative things. & NBSP;
Plesha, Prado's contributor is as high as her. Pradip was a hero behind the scenes. Don't worry about her persuasive parental, Paulsha's thus would not move this way. Pradip have abandoned his tons of greed for the career of the parliament. & Nbsp;

dad also inspired Paulsha to play Teakwando for self-determination. A school coach suggested that Pradip was admitted to Teakwando Doding. In playing Tequavoo, the Palamha had arrived at the national level. The first international team from the national team, 2017, played the first international competition from the national team at the age of 13. & Nbsp;
