It is believed that when King Shah of Gorkha was about to be killed by Kirtipur soldiers in battle, a Khadgi stopped him by saying that 'killing a king by soldiers is against religion' and Putuwar carried him on a dola and took him to Indra in Thankot.

Halchok Akash Bhairav is known as Savadya and Savahbhaku in the local language. It is believed that the Jatra of Akash Bhairav was conducted by King Gunakamdev of Kathmandu in Nepal Samvat 107, 1038 years ago.
Jatra is led by Halchok Akash Bhairav Guthi and Halchok Akash Bhairav Samaj. After the Jatra, clothes, crowns, ornaments and other belongings are washed away in the flood of the Manksi Gaah river in Kathmandu after midnight worship. Nripendralal Shrestha, the coordinator of the 12-year Jatra of Halchok Bhairav, says, "It is customary to keep the dyah (deity) in the house until the river floods."
