What you should know

A joint patrol of three security agencies along with the Chinese police has been started at Morimla border crossing in Upper Dolpa.

Chinese police, armed police and Nepal police have started a joint patrol to stop illegal activities at this traditional checkpoint, which has been open for twenty days since July 25th. District Police Office Dolpa Deputy Superintendent of Police Ruk Bahadur Khadka said joint patrols have been started to prevent illegal activities in the checkpoint area and to maintain peace and security. 'This is an open gate. At this time, the border is temporarily open. The security personnel are monitoring with patrols to ensure that there are no different types of criminal activities that disturb the movement of people,' said DSP Khadka.

District Administration Office Dolpa has issued 2,200 border passes this year, Chief District Officer Rom Bahadur Mahat informed.

Upper Dolpavasi have been buying daily consumables, clothes, various machinery materials from the Morimla crossing which has been open since the past.

Upper Dolpa is geographically difficult, so the cost of transportation is expensive when buying Nepali goods, so the people of Upper Dolpa buy Chinese materials at cheap prices to last a year.

Upper Dolpa residents only buy Chinese materials every year and because there are no commercially produced materials to sell to China, millions of dollars reach the Chinese market every year.

In the border area, Chinese merchants temporarily put up big tents and keep the materials for sale and distribution.

Currently, the herb exported from Nepal is Yarsagumba.

Dolpali yarsagumba traders reach the Chinese border to sell the yarsagumba they have collected because the price is better than that of Nepal in the Chinese market.

Traders say that good Yarsagumba in Dolpa is up to 300,000 per kg.

Morimla crossing is a temporary and open crossing. During the opening of the border, a trade fair is held in the Chinese area.

Upper Dolpa is still not connected to the national road network, so there is a compulsion to walk around and to carry daily necessities and other materials in carts, yaks, chauris.

She-Foksundo, Dolpobudv and Charkatangsong are three local levels in upper Dolpa.
