Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Population, Bikas Devkota, said that the government is now focusing on large hospitals by giving priority to waste management. In the Public Accounts Committee meeting, Secretary Devkota said that there is a plan to move forward the waste disposal process by analyzing the waste disposal focused on large hospitals. According to him, more than Rs 5 billion has been found in the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences and Bir Hospital in Dharan alone, which is about a quarter of the total waste disposal. Secretary Devkota informed that an action plan has been made to target waste disposal after analyzing the nature of waste disposal in such large hospitals.
According to him, special programs have also been included for waste disposal in the coming fiscal year, which will make the concerned bodies responsible and accelerate the waste disposal process. Secretary Devkota said that there is a lot of waste disposal related to the annual procurement process and that implementing a system for determining rates from the center would help reduce waste disposal.
Stating that there is currently a large amount of waste related to the procurement process, Secretary Devkota said that many problems would be solved if a unified rate system could be implemented at the central, provincial and local levels.
