Free breast cancer screenings have been conducted for female journalists working in the district, organized by the Chitwan branch of the Federation of Nepali Journalists and supported by Chitwan Medical College (CMC).
Shanta Adhikari, vice-president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists' Chitwan branch and head of the women's department, informed that 36 female journalists in the district benefited from the breast cancer screening program for female journalists. She said that mammograms were also done for breast cancer screening as per the needs of some journalists.
CMC has also announced a 50 percent discount on breast cancer surgery. At the program chaired by Basanta Parajuli, president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists' Chitwan branch, doctors provided information about the causes, symptoms and prevention methods of breast cancer.
CMC's CEO Pratap Devkota said that free breast cancer screening was conducted for female journalists as part of celebrating October as breast cancer awareness month.
Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in Nepal due to not getting tested on time. He said that as the idea of breast cancer screening is increasing, the number of patients is also increasing.
