103 infected with Japanese encephalitis

Currently, 103 people have been confirmed with Japanese encephalitis and 20 people have died, according to the Department of Health Services.

According to the Department of Health Services, Family Welfare Division, Child Health and Immunization Division, the incidence of Japanese encephalitis is increasing across the country.

Dr. Gautam said that the infection of Japanese encephalitis was found more in unvaccinated people. More than 70 percent of the deaths occurred in the age group of patients above 15 years. Deaths have occurred in Jhapa, Morang, Terhathum, Bara, Sindhuli, Arghakhanchi, Pyuthan, Dang, Bardia, Kailali, Rautahat, Nawalparasi East, Chitwan and Nawalparali West. 

According to health workers, Japanese encephalitis is caused by the bite of the Culex mosquito. It causes severe brain infection and death of the patient.
