The National Public Health Laboratory has confirmed cholera infection in eight of the patients sent from Birgunj suspected of having cholera.
Director of National Public Health Laboratory Dr. Ranjanraj Bhatt informed that cholera infection was confirmed in eight samples out of 10 samples. The faeces of cholera patients were sent as samples from Birganj.
Bhatt informed over the telephone that out of 10 samples sent from Birgunj, eight samples were confirmed to be infected with cholera. He said that cholera infection was found in 8 out of 10 samples during culture using the 'Vitech' technology in the laboratory. According to him, the results were obtained in 48 hours by culturing the samples using Vitech technology. He said that the test results of the remaining two samples will be available on Wednesday.
He informed that cholera has been confirmed by RDT so far from Birganj and samples have been tested in Kathmandu for further confirmation. He clarified that the culture was done for further confirmation as the result could be different only from the RDT test.
