Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized on the need to make efforts to eradicate leprosy more dynamic and effective as part of the campaign for a healthy Nepal.
Addressing the opening session of the 'Nepal Leprosy Conference' organized today by the Ministry of Health and Population and various organizations, Prime Minister Oli said that although the number of leprosy patients in Nepal is less than one per 10,000 can be taken as an indicator of success, they will not be satisfied until the disease is completely eradicated.
He mentioned that first of all he is blessed to have a good digestive system and he expressed the opinion that he can stay healthy if he leads his lifestyle in the right way with special attention to diet and care .
Prime Minister Oli mentioned that during the Panchayat period, he was tortured by keeping his kidneys on the cold ground in Golghar.
Prime Minister Oli has said that the government will amend the law to prevent leprosy patients from being harassed and that the government will facilitate the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the disease. He has requested to conduct regular treatment of infectious diseases like leprosy as a form of awareness.
Prime Minister Oli has drawn the attention of the Ministry of Health to spread awareness for the prevention of leprosy through mass media and information technology with the message that no kind of disease should be hidden.
