A cath lab service has been started in Bharatpur government hospital for specific treatment of heart and stroke. Health and Population Minister Pradeep Paudel on Monday inaugurated eight new services of the hospital including cath lab and burn treatment room with ICU, fertility center for childless couples.
Dr. Krishna Prasad Poudel, Medical Superintendent (MESU) of Bharatpur Hospital said that although the hospital had a cardiology unit with ICU for a long time, the situation of not being able to provide services to patients suffering from heart attack and stroke has ended due to lack of cath lab.
Dr. Poudel informed that four cardiologists, five nurses and five technicians are working for Cathlab. Other private hospitals and teaching hospitals in Bharatpur already had this facility. "Now, after this facility is added to this government hospital, the treatment will be at a lower cost. We do this treatment here for 20,000 to 30,000 rupees. It is very expensive outside,' said Mesu Paudel. Mesu Paudel said that 137 million rupees were spent for the catlab. Of which seven crore rupees were given by the government.
In addition to the funds received from the federal government last year, the hospital development committee spent five million rupees to purchase machines and also spent one million two million rupees for the building, he said. Mesu Paudel said that up to 10 people can be served from Cathlab. Bharatpur Hospital has started a seven-bed Burn Unit with two ICUs for burn treatment. Burns affecting more than 24 percent of the body can be dangerous. An ICU was needed to keep such burnt people. That's why we have started a burn unit with facilities,' said Mesu Dr. Poudel.
Similarly, the fertility unit has also been operational since Monday to serve the childless couple. The center was opened so that after finding out the cause of childlessness, they can have children after treatment. Along with this main unit, other services have also been launched on Monday. We have invested more than 16 million rupees for all new services,'' said Mesu Dr. Paudel. Minister Paudel said that there is a plan to make Bharatpur Hospital available for all treatment services. He instructed the hospital administration to start the kidney transplant service soon.
Bharatpur Hospital, which celebrated its 69th anniversary last March, is currently operating with 600 beds. Mesu Dr. Paudel said that the hospital will be operated with 700 beds by adding 100 beds within the next October. However, many doctors and staff are working under the Hospital Development Committee as government posts are very low. Mesu Dr. Paudel requested Minister Paudel to provide the hospital with beds and budget.
