Bharatpur Hospital is going to be operational within the next 7 months with 700 beds. Prof. Dr. Krishna Prasad Paudel, Medical Superintendent (MESU) of the hospital made this announcement at the 69th anniversary program of the hospital on Monday.
The hospital currently has 600 beds. The government placed this hospital under the federal ministry on February 3, 2075 and announced it as a specialized referral hospital.
hospital was operating since 2074 with 500 beds. Mesu Prof. Dr. Paudel said that the capacity of Bharatpur Hospital after its operation with 700 beds will be equal to Bir Hospital in Kathmandu and Terti Teaching Hospital in Maharajganj. Based on beds, infrastructure and human resources, we are among the leading hospitals in Nepal. But we are considered small by the staff circle and political leadership group of Kathmandu," he said. He also informed that this hospital got the second place in Nepal by getting 77 points out of 100 in the minimum service standard. There are currently 1,211 employees in the hospital. Out of which, about 400 employees are getting salary from Nepal government sources and the remaining 800 employees are getting salary from hospital development committee fund, said Poudel. But the local manpower for the hospital that receives salary from the government is only 150 beds. The cash income of the Health Insurance Board and the hospital accumulates in the fund of the Hospital Development Committee. Dr. Paudel said that 70 percent of patients who come to the hospital are insured. Four and a half crores of rupees were spent last year for the poor and helpless patients. The government had given only one and a half million rupees.
Dr. Paudel said that there is a sign of trouble because the money that should be received from the insurance has started to be arrears. He informed that the amount to be received from insurance has reached 446 million rupees till February. Dr. Poudel also said that the income of the hospital till February was 675.8 million rupees and the expenses were 81.5 million rupees and the expenses were 13 million rupees more than the income. He said that the pressure and attraction of
patients is increasing rapidly. Four lakh 56 thousand 159 patients came to the OPD in the hospital last financial year. Out of which 28 thousand 404 people were admitted and treated. Mesu Prof. Dr. Paudel said that the occupancy rate of the hospital was 92 percent last year. He said that when the number of patients increases at the rate of one and a half lakh per year, it will be a problem if the government support is stopped.
In the year 2078, the Ministry of Health and Population confirmed that 1,877 employees are required for 500 bed capacity and after passing it to the Ministry of Finance, there has been no progress. The main challenge now is not to have more posts and not to continue this process. We want this confusion and instability to end soon," Mesu Paudel said.
Raju Paudel, Chairman of the Hospital Development Committee, said that even though it was included in the government's policy and program to teach MBBS in the hospital, it could not be started because it was not included in the budget. He said that despite many challenges, the hospital plans to start and add special services. President Paudel says that since the MRI service started last year, Cathlab will also be operational for heart treatment within a few months.
