133 TB patients in Gorkha

During the 8 months of the current financial year, 133 tuberculosis patients have been found in Gorkha. According to Health Office Gorkha, 55 women and 78 men were diagnosed with tuberculosis during the tests from July to February.

The highest number of TB patients were found in Barpak Sulikot, 25 in Bhimsen Thapa Rural Municipality and 21 in Gorkha Municipality. 13 women and 13 men in Barpak Sulikot, 12 women and 13 men in Bhimsen Thapa and 8 men and 13 women in Gorkha Nagar area have been diagnosed with tuberculosis, said Navraj Khadka, Information Officer of Health Office Gorkha. 65 out of 133 people have pulmonary tuberculosis.

Since the current financial year, the health office has also started searching for tuberculosis patients through the chest disease detection program through X-ray. X-ray screening of 2 thousand 325 people from chest disease detection program was done by X-ray in Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality-1 and 4, Bhimsen Thapa's 5 and 7, Dharcheko-1 and Gorkha Municipality's 5, 7 and 8.

Out of those screened, 44 people were found to be tuberculosis patients. The theme of this year's World Tuberculosis Day is 'Yes, we can end TB. Commitment of investment and assurance of service delivery, the need of today' has been decided.

On the occasion of Monday's World Tuberculosis Day, Provincial Public Health Office Gorkha has emphasized the awareness program. Information officer Khadka said that tuberculosis can affect any part of the body except nails and hair.  He said that if the disease is identified and treated at an early stage, if regular and complete treatment is given, tuberculosis will be cured and it will not be transmitted to others. Tuberculosis drugs are available free of charge from government health institutions.

According to the Gorkha Health Office, 232 people were diagnosed with tuberculosis in the last fiscal year 2080/081. In the previous fiscal year 2079/080, 214, 216 in 2078/079 and 186 in 2077/078 were diagnosed with tuberculosis in the statistics of the Health Office.
