According to the Hong Kong-based "South China Morning Post", this new virus originated from the "Merbecovirus" subtype. This includes the virus that causes Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).

In a study published in the journal Cell, the Xi-led team wrote, "We have identified a new strain of HKU-5-CoV-2." which can spread not only in bats, but also in humans and other mammals of the same genetic origin.

When isolated from the bat sample, this virus infected human cells as well as small groups of artificially developed other cells. It has been found in studies that can be done. According to a report published in

Newsweek, this new virus has the ability to bind effectively to the human 'ACE-2 receptor'. In laboratory tests, this virus was successful in spreading infection to human cells and other organs. Therefore, it is suspected that it may be dangerous.

After the discovery of HKU-5-COV-2, it is very important to observe the corona virus found in bats, the researcher suggests. Because there is a risk that it will become a big threat to people in the future .

Currently, it is not clear whether this virus poses any immediate threat or not. But the researcher has advised to stay alert and be prepared to prevent such epidemics in the future .
