There are 3,563 students studying at Janata Secondary School located in Katahariya Municipality-5. This number of students is not found in any other school in the district. Janata Secondary School is the choice of many students due to its disciplined and learning-friendly environment.

Principal Sachindra Yadav says that students and parents like the discipline, regular class operation, continuous assessment of learning achievements, extra classes for weak students, smart classes, technology-friendly teaching methods, teaching in English medium and sports activities. ‘The school that started with a wooden building now teaches and teaches in a grand concrete house,’ he says, ‘We have made significant improvements in school enrollment, student sustainability and access to quality education services.’

This school was established in 2017 at the initiative of Satyanarayan Yadav, a social worker from the then Bhashedwa VDC, now Kataharia Municipality-1. Yadav took the initiative to open the school to eliminate the obligation of the students of the village to go to Dharahari, which is about 9 kilometers away, and Bagahi, which is 6 kilometers away, for their studies.

In 2036, the year the students participated in the SLC for the first time, 75 percent of the students of Janata Mavi passed. Even after that, the school has not let its image waver. All the students of this school passed the class 8 examination held last year. 84.86 percent passed in SEE and 82 percent in class 12. Gajendra Yadav, who is the Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, said that he is happy to see the progress of the school he studied in.

Dhaneshwori Devi of Kataharia-4 donated 12 kattas of land for the school. Currently, the school area is 2 bighas. The school owns 50 bighas of land. The school has 42 teachers and 12 employees. The municipality has been allocating Rs 3 lakh every year under the title of scholarship for this school.

Teachers say that the study of computer education in the school is also effective. Currently, computer education is being conducted in classes 9 and 10. The school building, lab, beautification, and exam results have been found to be excellent. Upendra Singh, head of the Education Development and Coordination Unit Office, Gaur, says that Janata Mavi has made good progress among the model community schools in the district. ‘Janata Mavi is good in all aspects, in terms of physical infrastructure, academic conditions, examination results, studies, and discipline among students,’ he said.

If 2,000 students are studying in a community school, the federal government provides financial assistance. That is why a two-story concrete building is being constructed in Janata Mavi with an investment of Rs 32.5 million received from the association. CCTV cameras have been installed all around the school. This has helped in monitoring the security of the school and the activities of the students.

The school has also prioritized sports. Currently, women’s and men’s cricket teams have been formed in the school. A month ago, Janata Mavi secured second place in the city-level cricket competition organized in Simraungarh, Bara. ‘The school is becoming excellent in every field,’ said Nikesh Yadav, captain of the men’s team.

Mayor of Katahariya Municipality Ajay Prakash said that he has been facilitating to increase access to education for all and provide quality education. ‘I am on a campaign to make Janata Mavi the best school in the country,’ he said, ‘The municipality will continue to support the development of the school’s infrastructure, management of educational materials and expansion of technology.’ He said that the progress of Janata Mavi has inspired other schools to move towards quality education.

The school has been making teachers participate in training, seminars and workshops to enhance their capacity. Sanu Prasad Yadav, chairman of the school management committee, said that the teaching methods have been modified in a timely manner. ‘The educational environment of the school has become stronger due to the coordination between the school management committee, parents and the local community,’ he said. ‘In the coming days, there is a plan to make the educational quality more effective and expand the use of modern technology, and emphasize moral education and life skills.’

Local parent Dineshray Yadav says that the school has made remarkable progress in a short time. ‘The standard of education in the school has improved. There has been a positive change in the discipline, leadership skills and confidence of the students,’ he says, ‘The success of the school has added new hope and potential to community school education in the district, Madhesh province and the country.’ His daughter Ranju is studying in grade 9.
