In front of the Navajivan Paropakar Samaj building in Takeshwor Municipality, an old woman was seen walking with a middle-aged woman, wearing a single-colored and embroidered chola, while dancing. The old woman was also seen occasionally stroking the middle-aged woman with her hands. That scene was very touching.

They are mother-in-law and daughter-in-law from the same house. Amrit Kumari Adhikari, who lives in a poor house in Dhading, is 87 years old. She has been living in the Navajivan Charitable Society for the past 6 years. She is not the only one who lives in the ashram, Amrit's daughter-in-law Yama Kumari also lives with her.

How did Amrit and Yama Kumari end up in this old age home? Their pain and suffering are very painful.

Amrit was very happy after her marriage. She had found a husband who loved her as she had imagined. The family was also as they had said. Amrit gave birth to a son in 2019. Everyone was happy. Her husband supported her in every joy and sorrow. Just as he had sworn to support her every moment during the wedding yagya, he was faithful to his word and was giving love, support and encouragement to Amrit. She considered herself very lucky .

But Amrit's happiness did not last long . In 2021, her husband passed away suddenly without any illness . Then Amrit was struck by lightning . She was only 23 years old when she lost her husband . Amrit, devastated by separation, would cry out, wondering how she would live her life without her husband .

Seeing her cry, her two-year-old son in her arms would cry . How could she get over the pain of losing her husband, who had sworn to live and die together for seven births while she was a child? But still, she started looking at her son's face . When her son grew up, she would explain to him that she would take care of me in my old age . She raised her son by organizing fairs, gatherings, and gatherings . It was time for her son to get married . Amrit himself married Yamakumari, a native of Nuwakot who was blind from birth. The son and daughter-in-law were very happy.

Amrit thought that the happiness that had been lost in the house had gradually returned. After some time, her daughter-in-law gave birth to a son. At this time, Amrit felt that the family was complete. She prayed that the eyes of God would not be cast upon her. They used to run the house by doing farming work. Their family could only feed themselves by selling paddy and rice. Mother-in-law becomes support for blind daughter-in-law

One day, Amrit was at home looking after her grandson who had been born a few days earlier. When her son returned from working in the fields, he suddenly complained of a stomachache. Even the herbs available in the village did not help. The next day, the news of the sudden death of her son, who had been taken to the hospital, came. At that moment, a second major lightning strike struck him. Yamakumari, who had only been married a few years ago, was alone at the age of 26, and had become a widow. Amrit, whom she considered as her support in her old age, and whose face she used to forget her old wounds and console her. He had left her midway. She fell into a coma. Unable to accept her son's death, she still faints frequently.

Amrit was now responsible for taking care of her blind daughter-in-law and her grandson who was born just a few days ago. But not a few days after her son passed away, her grandson also died suddenly. Another thunderbolt struck her again. She wiped away the tears that were falling from her eyes, remembering the past, and said, 'After my husband passed away, I consoled myself by looking at my son. Now my daughter-in-law would also console herself by looking at this grandson, and she would cry thinking of her son.' I used to say that this is our support now, but God took that away too,' she said, 'When I think back to the old days of my life, it seems like there was no place to calm my mind except pain and tears.'

With no way to express her feelings, Amrit had decided to go to Banaras to stay. But where could she go to explain her feelings, leaving her blind daughter-in-law at home? Amrit was getting weaker day by day. Seeing the pain her sister was in, Amrit's sister Saraswati decided to take her to her house. And, they went to stay at her sister's house. Amrit had sold all his property and got 70 thousand. While treating her and her daughter-in-law, eating, and wearing clothes, that was also enough. Amrit's sister, who had lived in her sister's house for 22 years, also passed away. After the person who supported her and gave her a place to stay, Amrit also started to feel sorry for her daughter-in-law. Amrit, who was touched by old age, was not able to work. They began to feel helpless. After reaching a helpless state, the village neighbors took the initiative to rescue them. During the Corona pandemic, they were rescued by the Navajivan Paropkar Samaj in 2077. Amrit says that she had never heard of an old age home in the early days. She says, "Even those who are helpless and have no family like us can get such support. I didn't know anything before." Both of them live together in the ashram. Everyone calls her daughter-in-law Kanchi Didi in the ashram. Amrit has become her support every day because her daughter-in-law is unable to do so. She follows her every moment like a shadow. Amrit does everything, from taking her to eat to taking her to the toilet.

Everyone who comes to visit Amrit and his daughter-in-law since they live in the ashram is amazed by the love and affection between them. Everyone praises them for being mother and daughter, not mother-in-law.

The younger sister's family is also wealthy. No matter how much they try to lure her to her family, she insists that she will not go. Her brothers also come to visit her from time to time. The younger sister is determined not to leave her mother alone. She says, 'My mother supported me in every difficulty. I was blind, but she married me off as her daughter-in-law, so how can I leave my mother now that she is old and go to her family? I will never leave my mother.'

Similarly, Amrit's relatives and family repeatedly offer to take her to their home, but she also says that she will leave her daughter-in-law and go nowhere. ‘Sometimes my parents and relatives come to pick me up. Sometimes they come to pick up my daughter-in-law. But neither of us go anywhere. I can’t leave my daughter-in-law, she can’t leave me,’ she said. They never leave each other even in the ashram, thinking of being each other’s support.

Amrit says that she has been praying to her daughter-in-law at the old age home, looking at her face. She said, ‘What is written in our destiny will happen. Everything that is going to happen has happened. There is no place worse than this. Even if God calls, he will not leave her as written. I have been praying to her, considering her as my daughter.’

Amrit says that she prays to God that her daughter-in-law is always healthy and safe. The daughter-in-law also says that she prays to God every day to protect her mother-in-law. Amrit and his daughter-in-law, who believe that no matter how bad the past is, one should forget it and live in the present, are teaching the society a lesson in love. They also say that they will stay together until their last breath, supporting and encouraging each other in any situation.
